HomeBase Cape Town

Our first hostel in South Africa was at HomeBase Melville in Johannesburg so it was only fitting we stay at HomeBase Cape Town too! We had a lovely stay at the Cape Town location as it had an awesome Family Room, Communal Kitchen, Rooftop Garden, Amazing Staff, and an adorable dog named Basey! It’s run by a mom and her 2 sons and it definitely has a family-friendly ambience!

Here’s why we loved HomeBase:

1) BEAUTIFUL FAMILY ROOMS
HomeBase
Each room has its’ own unique character and feel. Our room was called “Sunset” and had a beautiful orange sunset motif with a double bed, bunk bed, and en-suite washroom. Our kids loved the bunk beds while my wife and I got to enjoy the nice, comfy big bed! They have dorm rooms, singles, doubles, and family rooms en-suite and shared. Check out the video tour of our room below!

2) CENTRAL LOCATION

We did the 2 day City Sightseeing Bus Tour during our stay at HomeBase and it was only a few blocks walk away. Plus, there were several restaurants and cafes around the hostel. We tried out SPUR, Debonair’s, KFC which were all on the same street plus a few more restaurants on Long Street. A bonus was having a grocery store right opposite the front door and the train and bus station within a few minutes walk.

3) ROOFTOP GARDEN

We loved the view from the roof! We were able to have lovely breakfasts and dinners overlooking the famous Long Street. We could even see the famous Rooftop Trailer Park at the Grand Daddy Boutique Hotel! Plus, we made some awesome friends in the communal area. Having spaces like this really help build community. Plus, there is a weekly Braai (South African BBQ) on Friday evenings.

Have you stayed at HomeBase South Africa before?

We would love to hear about your experience! Several people recommended it to us during our 2 week Baz Bus Journey and we are glad that we listened to their advice and stayed at HomeBase too! I’m sure you are like us and miss home, family, and friends while you are on the road. Maybe you need a place like HomeBase to feel the sense of home, family, and community again.

If you are heading to Cape Town, I highly recommend staying at HomeBase. We really enjoyed their emphasis on the word “HOME.” It really does feel like home away from home…even to the extent they have a family dog who lives onsite! Make sure you give Basey, the hostel dog, a pet and a hug for us!! Yes, Basey is named after the hostel! :)
