Speaking about Travel Blogging at the BC Association of Travel Writers

It was quite the honour to speak about Travel Blogging at the BC Association of Travel Writers last week on Tuesday, Oct 21, 2014 from 7-9 pm in Yaletown! I started by sharing about my travel adventures followed by how people can make, market, and monetize a travel blog!

Ever since my 20s, I have been passionate about travel. It all started after High School and as I entered University. In my teenage years, we had Home Stay Students stay with us from Japan, Korea, Mexico, and Brazil so it birthed a desire to travel and learn about other cultures from a young age!

Between 1998-1999, I did my first big travel adventure going to live in England and backpacking around Europe visiting England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Germany, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Holland, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

In the summer of 1999, I did a 6 country overland trip through the Middle East going from Turkey to Syria, Jordan, Israel, Lebanon, and into Egypt. It was an open-jaws trip flying from London into Istanbul going overland to Egypt and then flying back to London from Cairo.

After graduating University in 2001, I went to Japan to teach English for one year between 2001 – 2002 followed by 2 years of traveling through Asia between 2003 – 2004 visiting Korea, China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Mynamar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines, Indonesia, and East Timor.

In 2004, I arrived in Sydney, Australia to do a Working Holiday Visa followed by studying in Hillsong Leadership College between 2005 – 2007. After Australia, I traveled to New Zealand and then flew to LA traveling up the West Coast of the United States from Mexico to Canada.

Finally, in 2008, I returned home to get married and settle down in Vancouver. However, my passion for culture and travel continued as I married a beautiful Filipino woman named Anne and now have 2 amazing mixed kids named Rianne and Ryan. Plus, I proposed in an Airport and got married on a boat so travel is at our very core.

Since having kids, we have done several local road trips to Seattle, Harrison Hot Springs, Bowen Island, Sunshine Coast, Vancouver Island, Whistler, and the Okanagan as well as Family Trips to San Francisco and the Philippines. Through my blog, I have also done 2 Helicopter Trips to Whistler, and 3 media trips to Nashville, The Prairies, and Toronto.

Looking forward to the next Family Adventures in the months and years to come!
